R.E.N.E.W = Removing Every Negative Emotional Wound
RENEW Mentoring is a 12-month program that provides evidence-based mental health mentor program in SC to young girls ages 12-18 years old, which aims to enhance & build social skills, interconnection, team building, problem-solving, self-empowerment, & etiquette. Girls will participate in group mentoring, community integration, and enrichment activities to achieve social, emotional, and physical well-being. Each mentee will be required to meet 1-2x/week for adequate program participation to ensure that they are reaping the full benefits of the RENEW Mentoring Program period. Mentees will also gain the opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses and set personal life goals with confidence. All mentoring-related activities will be administered by a trained RENEW Mentor and follow a pre-designated curriculum.
Why Girls?
Mentoring program for girls in South Carolina have been proven to provide various benefits and positive impacts for young girls, especially those entering/in adolescence. Often girls are faced with situations that negatively affect their physical and mental health, body image, self-esteem, and personal growth and development. Early adolescence is a pivotal point for girls, a time of transition when girls begin to question and form their identities. Girls tend to behave differently when boys are around; therefore, girls are more comfortable sharing and opening up to other girls. By providing girls-only group mentoring, Renewed Image Youth & Family Services creates a safe space for girls to open up about sensitive topics, be themselves, and feel supported in a confidential, positive, and fun atmosphere.
